On the AppleWin emulator prior had forgotten to mention for most games and some app's *you need a pc joystick of some type*...
Saw on net where people had questions and weren't getting much help, so this should aid you, had found using that of the X-Box 360 controller on the pc which works fine, if you also select the pc joystick option in the AppleWin configuration for input settings it works just great there for it too...

One note on that of the X-Box 360 controller, or likely any PC joystick you use, *it must be plugged in first before you run the AppleWin emulator itself!*...
Mention for any disappointed of kiddies and adults, as many games for the AppleWin emulator do require a joystick, but that controller gets it, and likely that of the Playstation types with their script patch will as well...
On the latter think had to add an easy X-Box patch of some type to the pc, but not for the AppleWin itself per se, was for the other more modern of the pc games off and online types themselves...

Anyway you may have to look into that as had done that 2 or 3 years back so don't remember the exact details (wasn't hard came as script implemented), *just do a search on *using the X-Box 360 game controller with the pc* that should give you all the info you'd need there, as was what I did then!*...
Without you'd still be able to run other games and app's that are for keyboard only and their up there too, that of Karateka (C) works either way, Skyfox (C) as well, and are two versions of Apple Panic (C) for that, which originally came on tape no less, and are a number of that type, if you look around or just test them...Skyfox a typo, it requires both the keyboard and joystick together, but Beer Run (C) another oldie worked of your choice with either keyboard or paddles...
Should be a lot like that ...

Once back finally chilled back down, finally made some initial good use of the Nibble magazines library...That in their many additional game, app and util programs, and of their well written and very detailed articles for them...
Typed one oldie in the emulator itself last week which consisted of both integer basic graphics type, with an assembly language portion that went with it, and when done *it worked and ran just fine, in fact*exactly like the real thing itself!*...
Those who have some non working of old apple disks of their fav's even without the ADT transfer, can using old utils and the AppleWin for the same pgm in question, do that of some very strong disk comparitives, and of time can both find and repair aka restore that original apple disk itself as well...

On using integer basic (C) types and programming in integer basic with the AppleWin emulator:
Once that basic loads into the ram or the language card on II+, IIE, it will then take you back to an Applesoft (FP) cursor type prompt, and then to use the Integer basic, you have to type INT which will then yield integer's carrot prompt which looks like a > than sign itself...
If you use the emulators Apple II (Original mode), it will probably put you into the Monitor (aka machine language area) as you may see an asterisk symbol for the prompt itself, *from there simply press the Ctrl C keys at the same time, and that returns you to basic *which will be that of the integer basic carrot prompt!*...
In either case then you can load, run or type in Integer basic programs and save them, etc with no problems...
On initial saves of any Integer Basic program you write or create of it, *it does take longer of even a solid minute or more for it to save to the dsk itself for the very first time*, but afterwards in speed it will then load and run normally as the Applesoft types do...
Each language has it's advantages, were a total of 16 languages that those old 8 bit machines used for different purposes...
Most would be surprised at just how educational that all can be, and of the very useful you'll learn when it comes to your other future programmings areas as well...
