You have options in creating the windows or windows as well in it, so pretty much most need of a Basic most especially a free one no less...

It's code runs very fast as compiles the Basic programs to the Assembly language type as executionables, so it's good for many different types of projects, and then aside the main of BASIC itself you have a choice of several other languages that can be ran within it as well...

 A big apology and note on FreeBasic, as said  not responsible for it, but it's basic is different from the original basics, *but it is still a basic*, and in that a much more powerful one!...

Still an apology as can be some bugs *if you unknowingly make a program error and your compiled exe files ends unexpectedly*...

Most there can be totally avoided if you don't get in a hurry as I do at times, if you always compile only first then you will see any line code errors, but if you jump to compile/run instead then your going to have exe crashes at times when their's an error in your code!...

Normally you manually end it, if the program compiled ok, but if not FreeBasic then auto exits when there's a problem with it...

It's somewhat normal in of any programming for things of that nature to occur, but might scare those not to experienced in programmings...

Not to mention MS aka Windows will throw up an interferring msg, saying words to the effect of: Close out and we will find a solution?

They can't, there not doing the programming LOL...


Mainly occured because I didn't first check the program for errors by using the compile only function!

 
On differences of it and the original basics for instance, one is in the createing of basic's variables themselves: You can't just make numeric or string assignments as in the old days, *you have to always use the Dim command to create any type of variable* you need in your program...

It initially will take most more work to convert aka translate an older basic program *to the format, syntax of it's FreeBasic's commands, but you'll definately learn and understand the programming in FreeBasic very well in the doing of that...

If you don't test by using compile only function you might get tired of Windows throwing up a msg when a compiled exe stops working at times, but there is no issue as it will be a programming type when happens...

Example:

Converted a *basic pgm* out of an old apple but not apple's aka an individuals programming *tutor book* from the old days where you type in what your given:

It did not like switching from integer to string when reading the very last element of a data statement, though FreeBasic is supposed to allow for that...

My basic program when compiled to an exe file, would just itself *end aka exit at that point*...

That's ok to happen but Windows thought it was an app with an error, but I resolved it by just replacing the string with a number, and then the compiled exe of the same name as prior, ran perfectly and only ended as it should when I closed aka quit the program myself...
Those things are going to happen in any programming language when unknowingly you make an error and when you compile in C, C++, Python as well, as not all in every debugger will catch every single error type, so it's nothing to get too excited about, as at least FreeBasic itself auto in the fast did the exit when didn't reach it's normal exit code, but wanted to forwarn you of it...

The old Apple example program was of just Original basic's code, were no Apple specific areas addressed and was only a read data type that had translated to learn the FreeBasic equivalent of it from...Works fine now...

Had made routines equivalent to the old H and V line Lo Res style (thick) that all the old pc's used at one point other night and worked perfectly...

You just have to spend the time translating to that of FreeBasic's commands, syntax to emulate that of older basic's commands in some cases is s all...

In that last case you have to start with the most fundamental of writeing those small programs which is what I did to begin making a reference library of small routines, programs to draw upon as a reference for yet larger programs...

[How small or many of small routines?

You'll probably need to  write quite a few, as you'll need in the very basic of begins to write out a number of both the Print and Input example types beyond the shown in the manual...

That for using numerics and string variables in formulas, within loops as well, etc using the initial of *Dim commands to prior declare those variables first* and in your own examples of how to format them within your code, as *to appear as you want it on the screen itself*...

That's just to start, will be other to do the similar with as you learn it's other commands!

Later you'll have to choose the main language such as FBlite, FB, or QB to work with *later*, *but at first in following their examples you won't have to worry about it*, true of the 21 video res modes as well]...


Then that type just mentioned had did prior, was for when you want a screen window with a *wide colored border around it* and over a black or color filled background, upon which within it, you put a sprite(s), images or text msg's and use as a module aka subroutine in a larger program of your makings...An example of the other types of small routines you must or will create in begins slowly over time, which you will then use in your own larger programs later!...

Sounds hard but not, just takes time...

If had went pixel aka high res alone, then one can use the FreeBasic's lines and locate commands alone themselves for that, but for the wider you will have to create those was what that was all about, and an idea of what you'll have to do in some of your programs as well...

Not any problem doesn't slow you down, since it's basic compiles and then runs at very high speeds anyway...

You still have the options of using your PC's Windows own windows types for backgrounds or gui's, etc in terms of creating those within your FreeBasic programs as well, but there *you have to create your own GUI's from it's basic yourself*, so you are indeed at the total level of doing that from BASIC which is quite ok just work, and you can electively use other of it's language options in that if wish too...

Being at that level means you have full power and control of every aspect of the programs you create, which is a very, very good thing!...

Another area on the FreeBasic is unlike the commercial of PureBasic it does not come with a GUI Visual Editor where you select a form aka canvas and then place the Object tools on it that you want for the GUI look and use in of your App's...

That's ok since it is afterall a freeware GNU product, but wouldn't advise downloading any of the separate GUI for Forms editors and tools made for it...

Most were made for older OS versions, also even the best which SourceForge.net offers expects a certain MS file on your pc and won't operate without it...

Could be dangerous if you separately look for that file and end up getting it from a non trusted source as could be a malware version...

Then of others through the community tutorials area some sites no longer exist or require an FBJellyfish file which vis scans registers as malware also...

So better off just to use FreeBasic as it is, *that of a GUI Forms and Objects Tools type editor is entirely a separate product*, and not needed to program in FreeBasic itself and later you design your own objects for your App's when you reach that level...

In using the FirstPrimer area in it's help manual you'll see a list of 6 commands to learn first as the very ultra minimum to enable you to write your own small programs in begins, that aside any you may create from experimentations and needs as I do...

You'll need to add on to the basic 6 commands per your needs, but are about 18 all together which form the minimum for proficiently working aka programming in it's language...

You can get a good structured list of those by downloading a free demo of PureBasic if it also contains the help manual in that, your set...

Anyway in that help manual accessable by f1 key also is a *User's Guide* thatt lists out instead of 6 that of around 18 initial commands that are to be learned and  used to initially master it's language and programming for great results in your own projects...Except for the GUI forms editor that FreeBasic doesn't have, *all would be the very same for FreeBasic as well*...The same in a proper sequence of commands to be learned that is, not that the commands are exactly the same, but are of same names!...

In PureBasic the setting up of your windows for GUI app's is a breeze being a commercial and professional product type...

Mention as that would give a very solid, clear and ordered path of study, for you to become proficient in the learning and programming of FreeBasic itself too...

On all or most of the FreeBasic commands in descriptions and examples it provides, you can always further modify some by changing or adding additional lines and commands to them to perform something more than they show as well...That being a type of experimentation and part of the learning process in any language...

You'll get errors at times when that you add is of the wrong syntax or command useage, but that too is all part of the learning...It's debugger is not as powerful as PureBasic's so you may expect some errors in doing such, which will give av programs fits as they'll think it's a malware App when is not...

Highly doubtful would ever cause you any serious problems at all, as it runs your code within it's own allocated of memory areas for the FreeBasic itself and no where else on the machine!...

In that doesn't crash the FreeBasic either as only involves the mem area that freebasic allocated to it, and freebasic and or your av auto shuts it down in that area which clears that mem area also...

Again if you just choose compile only first you'll avoid most all exe crashes, and see the line numbers where any errors are...

Sunday night experimented with the allocate memory functions of freebasic and modified one of the examples as had in DarkBasic Pro before where I extended what could be done in an allocated mem area...

Took me about 5 tries to get the added line command working in that of both needed variables and correct syntax order for them, and sure enough until I got it correct in one instance the exe file crashed and was immediately by av shutdown giving the normal err msg and saying windows would find a solution stuff...

So to satisfy Mr Smartdetect msg I reset the code back to original and the very same program ran perfectly, mainly in case the detect mode monitoring it, and to show nothing was wrong with the program exe file itself!...

Was purely my fault as had skipped the compile only test part!...

Once ran that way, went back to experiementing and in 3 more trys finally got my added code to work perfectly as well...

Now freebasic does have an inline assembly code feature, but hadn't tried that as of yet, and wanted my own direct just like the old basic's days of entering that code myself anyway...

Was a triumph in that, as had added code for a mem function not given in it's manual, which in their program example displayed what was placed in a mem buffer by it's main code, had added a line to that which also allowed me to specify any individual byte address (position) in that buffer and then correctly and solely display it's information also!...

Means one can manipulate the data in the buffer in any way desired, which is extremely useful, and in the very same as in the old days when you used your Apple II+ on up series, Commadores, Vic's, TI's, Amiga's, Atari's, Kaypro's, RS Tandy's, Oranges, Sinclairs, and many others of their Basics and on the Junior Pc's and PC's of the Ibasica and the GW-Basic's, etc then...

All of those personal computer Basics then, allowed you the ability through Peek, Poke and Call, etc commands to enter your own short machine language aka those ones and zero patterns...Those are written in the more human readable and understandable in hexadecimal form aka Assembly language itself to run those as pgm's also...

Those as within a main basic pgm you had created or separately for some other function when Bsaved as a binary file type itself and often of com or exe types...

So in the straight up with just small code adds, one can do the very same in FreeBasic, retaining the power of the Old in the usings of it on today's modern pc's and OS's also...

Today's world is a very neat time to learn programming in general for thousands of reasons, but *of the old also* as vis today's technology we can on all major pc OS's also use that of the old 5 1/4 or 3.5 inch floppy disks as an A:\ drive too!...

Those modern Floppy to USB types *are very inexpensive*, and allow you to load all your old disks and the programs stored on them into your pc, or in the more often you'd use that of DOSBox to first mount that A:\ drive then selecting it's own c:\ drive to do a Dir /p and select the individual program you want to run under the DOSbox...

In other words thanks to modern technology, you still have full access to most all of your old, old programs from prior pc, etc days as well!...

In one case had an older windows program on one floppy from 2005 and it ran perfectly in today's Win10 and was quite an reminescent and enjoyable experience...

If you load in an older yet program requireing an old dos into windows itself or other OS's you'll get the familiar doesn't recognize and cannot load it msg types, so you should always initially load them in or check what's on it by mounting that drive with the DOSBox first...

Many will work perfectly that way, and in a few rarer instances you many have to load in an older Dos under the DOSBox first when it permits ir, before loading and running the other, all stuff you can check out or enquire of at the DOSBox site prior or as the need arises...

Today's Windows system are very good of their compatibitly modes to run a lot of old softwares also, but not in every case, had one the other day tried to do it with, and just wouldn't go for it as it required another dos or something of a dos nature, but when I mounted it with the DOSBox was instant gratification and worked perfectly...

So sometimes that's what you'll need to do, and then keep saying PC OS's but the DOSBox also runs on Android Tablets and Cell aka Mobile phones of that OS also, and you can use dropbox with it and sync to all devices as well...You can see examples in videos at Youtube...

So it's a pretty versatile product, and near daily or on and off often check both the Youtube videos on it, and that of the OS's or languages, as is often something new on them that pop up there as a resource also...

One difficulty noticed in the FreeBasic is that of the additional console aka dos window that accompanies the graphics one when you choose a graphics video mode...It also appears in the compiled exe file also, so you will need to inquire on how to suppress that in the latter case...

That should have been in their documentation, but didn't see it?...

There's OpenGL and are *some free graphics aka 3D engines that work from FreeBasic* as well that some of their games appear to be made from, those had no dual screens, so you'll need to inquire on that too...


Working more with the PureBasic have had for years and just started using while back myself as mentioned in other below, it doesn't have that problem, and has a dedicated 3D engine in it already...

Anyway most can see the present is really a great time to get into programmings of any type and most especially for the Home User to create their own fun App's as well...Everything one needs is out there and available in the now...

One of likely others matching it's extremes was on Saturday down south where a man killed 5 members of a single family not only by shooting them to death, but by using other weapons also, that all going with the sudden, fierce and ill of things and people falling under it's influences in actions same the meanings...

Health has only marginally improved in some but deteriorated in others, legs look better but not, as that of the swellings always a constant issue and hold up...

The mornings still the hardest part of my day and provided that I'm not backed up on *the digestive sides* (the real crux), the legs will usually be unswollen and normal then, but as any day progresses so does the swellings and become very swollen by late afternoons and evenings on...

That too strongly affects the knees and ankles as well as the calves and progressively makes the standings up and the *initial movements* of walkings even with cane more unbalenced later in any day also...

Bit depressive and not fun in that but at least strong enough now that doesn't affect my drivings or ability to go to px, etc as long as well before the swellings become significant, and yet dare not do so repetively in any one week or more as back just can't handle it...

In other words very restricted there, and leave it at that...

Couple Saturdays back *spent many hours on* and in instructional learnings videos on youtube areas...

That to do with various programmings languages...Some are of entire series types on the language covered, so the easy of many hours goes with that...

Having some familiarity with most would jump around as was doing a comparings to see which would best meet my own programmings standards and needs...

Many today in products and leanings aim at the *no programmings knowledges required or needed type*, a lot of the HTML 5 and browsers types in that since covers not just pc's but all devices as well...Very strong in that of todays gamings but has other applications uses also...

Personally not too much into that myself and prefer the older of real programmings itself, can use all but was examining to see if was any advantage in sticking to just C++ and other over that of what are now very powerful basics also?...


Got a surprise there as in older basics found that since most are unmaintained or not supported that their free to obtain , and are many using them on todays modern PC's in latest OS versions as well!...

That's easily done by just using Dos emulators such as the DOSBox (c), Boxer (c) and is another which already has an emulated basic within it aka PC-Basic...All of those are entirely free app's!...

PC-Basic is a near flawless version of the older GW-Basic, also runs the old IBM (R) pc basic (c) itself also that of the Tandy (R) basics as well, *comes with it's own full documentation on all the commands*, etc and can operate in windowed or full screen mode on any PC, Mac or Linux OS...Checked out on first two and it runs superbly on them!...


In separate the DOSBox itself is also widely used for games, and those from the Great Old Games (cheap too) aka (G.O.G) website, along with more modern and even some quite recent one's as well, and with that of the DOSBox allows any to play the games *Offline*, as well as in a full screen mode too!...

These all run fine on most Windows systems, and the Mac and Linux PC's as well...

Other older basics such as QB4.5 and above such as QB64 are o very powerful and popular yet *amongst math types* aka QuickBasic is also ran under the DOSBox but much better under Boxer on any of the pc types mentioned as well...

It may also be the very best choice for a Mac though had no problems with PC-Basic some say the QB's aka QuickBasic's on certain tech points is better, just know both worked on the Mac when I checked them and liked the ease of the PC-Basic as didn't require a separate DOS emulator to run it plus comes with a full commands help file (html doc type)...

Some recommend SmallBasic (c) appears supported yet, for it as well won't be checking but you might if wish...

That of the GW-BASIC (c), QuickBasic (c)  are unsupported of Microsoft Corp (TM) types...

One other extemely powerful old basic which is actually still somewhat supported is that of Freebasic which though some small issues *is said to run quite well under the DOSBox as well*...

Another very small not quite as powerful but don't think requires any emulator at all is that of Chipmonk basic (c) which runs on all the PC and other OS types also...

Then if you further check of questions and forums you'll find in all old basics areas there are easy and positive solutions that allow you on the modern of OS's and Printers to still be able to print your programs or arts, etc using that of the com serial ports as well...


That and any issues with that of using the older basic's, etc in the older of Vista (c) or Xp (c) can be found in the forums with easy fixes for them also...

[In after thought if any other problem on the latter windows OS's or any you'd wish to do it for that hasn't been easy or covered in a forum for you:

You could always put those downloaded basics and emulators on a small linux desktop version's stick aka a plugin USB drive type, just need a small USB drive you can with PC shutdown plug it into one of your USB ports for boot up selection of the linux OS in most cases...

Those small linux os's exist for both that of windows and mac pc's, if unsure that of Puppy linux is a good choice as are versions that will run on about any pc old or new around, but electively you could use the standard of Ubuntu or it's many varients and many other linux distro's as well, that's your choice...

By using a small linux you can do the desired of a  *full install type* on just a 2GB USB stick, were you to choose Ubunta, and likely Fedora or other *main distro type you would need an 8GB USB stick in the minimum to do a full install...

A *full install* is much better than a Live install, in terms of it's much greater security for keeping others out of your desktop and pc period with the overall of Linux security being much better than say windows alone...


Prior you can have downloaded a small linux desktop type onto your pc (search linux on USB on the net for types, *and/or* very likely are many videos on installing it at youtube (c) for that including uses of the linux OS from a USB drive as well!...

To use the linux copy most USB drives already formatted and install those files to your small USB drive and then install letting it additionally format it for linux os purposes...All that will be at a linux site for instructions and also highly likely videos on that at youtube making it easier to follow and do as well...

Once done remove the USB drive and *shutdown your pc*, then put the USB drive (stick) back in the USB port and *follow the linux site or video instructions which tells you how to boot into the linux OS on your PC Type*, ,when you start that PC back up...

Once your into linux then copy or send the old basic and Dos emulator files you downloaded to your pc prior, unzippimg them first if needed and to your linux USB drive...

Then simply follow the video for the Dos emulator and basic you selected to be sure your doing it correctly, and you'll be happily running your old basic in linux at that point!...

Not a bad way to go as you can very safely and securely store all your programmings into folder(s) you create for them on your handy carry it anywhere linux usb drive itself...

That can solve your problems on particular few pc os's that the old basic vis a dos emulator won't or won't run well on...

If first time copy the linux site instructions first and prior watch youtube videos on it, writing down any pertinent steps from such also, and videos on the actual old basic vis dos emulator you selected's install as well... 

Once your set up will become a very easy routine to boot your linux and do your programmings]!...

[Anyway besides the Nostalgic of reasons, a good many young and old are using the older basics today and of them as their code is most easily understandable of languages and are quite easy to learn types for the average person home user period...

The bulk of people making the installation videos seem to prefer gw-basic under DOSBox as a universal or common to all type...

Mainly they use making program app's for their own personal needs in that of sciences, electronics, home accountings or inventories type, mechanics of archetectural types, recipe programs, basic drawing or graphics app's, and many other...

In fact they can only be used for one's personal app's as nothing made of those older basics may be commercially sold period!...

However thats enough in itself and for fun, many enjoy the pleasures of the 8 and mainly 16 bit basics as adequate in the learnings and writings of their own in the home programs, and at a cost of zilch....

A lot also get a sense of *great reward and enjoyment in accomplishing things through their own codings*, that are useful to them at purely *the Home PC User level* on their own personal pc's...




Ok moving on due to both health and this Wwg stuff never had enough time to enjoy that of the liscensed Darkbasic Pro (c) and PureBasic (c) softwares had bought years back...Now do...

That of DarkBasic Pro is no longer supported but is also now Open source so any can obtain it for free from SourceForge.net...

Both are very powerful of 3D graphics types, but in the overall have decided to put my time in and on PureBasic (PB) as it's an all PC's OS's aka cross platforms type...

Has it's own basic visual forms designer within to set up your GUI's for your app's quickly as well and can be quite sufficient for many as well there...

Then are more tool plentiful sophisticated form designers that were made for it too, and hopefully still available should you want such...

Not really mandantory though, as that of any app's GUI can be accomplished and designed in full also by that of your programming the various object tools you want to appear or be within your GUI within that of your own program codings itself!...


That and in the real and original programmings languages PB to me is simply the most powerful and *less binding of limits* in what you may program it for, or with in my opinion...

[Most all other languages do have some kinds of limits and *catches* in how they can be used, what can be programmed for and what could interface too or with often in their liscensings as well, and the fact that you can also use Assembly language within PB just as you could do with the old GW-BASIC (C)!...

Did do a lot in that area myself in the late 80's and early 90's there using the GW-Basic and prior to it using an older user made Apple II+ (c) 8080 software interpreter and compiler to emulate and create and run pc programs in assembly on it before later finally getting a PC machine type as well,  the same makes the modern of *PureBasic (PB)*, my personal in needs favorite and best programmings software choice]!...

Wasn't easy stuff made hundreds of mistakes in the learning processes but eventually got pretty darn good at it :)...

Remember all the magazines back then you'd buy to learn new code tips and tricks and type in the free of programs they offered, was a socially fun time amongst others who did the same and of what were neighborhood BBS's or your town's local computer groups back then!...

Have to admit was really dumb and thrown way off on PureBasic *for quite some time*, as some of it's commands were c like in form and some outside user eval articles inferred it too...

That as in some app's you have to at the top of the code precede them with what is like a Pre Processor code area, where you define Procedures, functions or add the needed prior to writing the main program code below it...

That's pretty much done in c, c++, objective c, assembly and others also, however it's only required and a bit differently so, as in Procedures types, etc *of just some few purebasic app's*, and not in all as those above by a very long shot!...

So it's as it says *a Basic*, and you program it from that standpoint in it's unique language per your needs...

However it's an Ultra fast basic as it's written entirely in Assembly language, and whenever in final versions if they further optimize it, wouldn't be anything faster!... 

Think all resolved now, but believe some commands did change in it's later versions else I had an awfully big monkey in there somewhere as almost all in the 3d examples folder had two - three incorrect commands and really threw me off as it would always give me a *can't find the gdkengine type error*...

Don't think was a monkey though as I probably only updated the editor-compiler IDE itself and kept the program examples that originally had...

Anyway finally realized it was the commands when I compared to book examples, and so far have corrected 5 example pgm's to work perfectly now with another 20 or so to go!...

Did try out the inlineasm aka assembly of a couple examples there and ran perfectly, did counter checks modifying that being read into an allocated mem area to be zip, by using the comments command so would bypass those lines, and correctly got zip showing it worked...

In another case modified theirs and added and xtra asm command to their code to read the first byte of the allocated mem area as the *ascii char number itself, and that too came out perfectly...  

So definitely says that of PureBasic's Inline Assembler works just as they say it does!...

To me that's great as the speed at which things can get done is phenomenal, such as store a scene or image, an animation, or *anything you'd like really*, and then using math algorithms to alter it into many different patterns for fades and many other different display purposes as well...Neat stuff...

You could do most of that in DarkBasic Pro (DBPro) too, and it was definitely fast enough to be of great graphics game app uses as were a fair number of games put out by the first timer's using it. so it's nothing to really snub one's nose at...

However that's not near as fast as the direct of assembly language itself, and you could not inline assemble in DBPro whereas in PureBasic you can!...

That of assembly can only in the rare lose out to other when *it's code has not been Optimized*, if it's optimized won't anything beat it in the speed category...

You can see why I like it now, and think it's better to concentrate on just one or an integrated two languages, versus a whole slew of the others to get a great diversity of App's done with, when just the integrated two such as of PureBasic will get all the jobs would want done...


That also still leaves the original of the older basics as a pure fun and enjoyments tool as most that have ever used a basic pick it back up *really fast* and it's pretty quick or easy to program in, as it's so commonsense of it's easy to remember commands...Then are a lot of helpful programs a home user can make for their uses as well, which keeps it going even now...

If you have questions on the how's for those older basics just go to Youtube (c) and type in the basic's name you like with say DOSBox or Boxer, and you can learn all you'll need to know to set it up, read the comments there too...

One Xtra Note: on PC-BASIC:

You can site check first, but believe you need to install Python first as PC-Basic runs under that language...

Should only need Python if you downloaded the Source code version of PC-Basic, if you downloaded the Binary aka Binaries form just another word for .Exe types then you won't need Python for that!...

Are Python versions (free) for all the OS's mentioned also and nothing to it as far as installing!...



On windows it's installation usually places a folder in your start or app's menu that depressing your windows key brings up, when you click on it and open the folder you will see the documentation (an offline html type) with it there...

On Mac's and possibly Linux's you might not get the documentation with the program, but you can on web go to the pc-basic.org choose it's documentation area and that (html) pages on all the commands there is the exact same that's sent to the Window's pc's...

So there you would do a browser *Save As* which will download that page to your pc, for Offline viewing at any time and of main use when your programming in that of PC-BASIC...


Should any download the now free of DarkBasic Pro (DBPro) after you've made sure it runs ok first, then also make sure you have a spare $15 or so on hand as you'll definitely need that of the *Hands On DarkBasic Pro* books Vol 1 and Vol 2 in electronic pdf form...

You'd need at least Vol 1 to start yourself off with picking up Vol 2 later...

Those are very, very thorough teaching you at the equivalent that a normal full course would and in the style of one also: That on all DBPro's basic's commands which there are a lot within DBPro, and in that covering various app's and *several different* types of full complete game models, structures and builds, so money would be well spent...Those are probably available at Amazon.com...

Added a bit more good for beginner to know in choices stuff on and to the USB Linux area above...

Can see why some like the GW-Basic better than PC-Basic as spent some time at the pc-basic.org website in it's discussion areas where users go for Q & A, and was good to do as you pick up things that aren't in the documentation from the answers...Just went over couple of the Q & A there, but in that showed that PC-Basic runs much slower than GW-Basic in a DOSBox emulator...Latters speed adjustable by F11 and F12 keys and you can take it up pretty high which allows some's programs who use many or quite large loop delays for complex object drawings will run great in that, but too slow in PC-Basic...However that's just of some programs with most working ok in PC-basic too...The one user was advised there to use the GW-Basic instead for his unique program in that case...

GW-BASIC allows the very useful Shell function where as they removed it in PC-Basic, and same to do with the Call function for use of assembly programs, however in latter best to have a memory map and use *within* the Basic's memory area above that allocated to it's basic and basic program memory area your running as you don't want to address any areas outside that on the pc itself *on today's computers*!...

Hadn't mentioned but learned the great bulk originally from the great Apple basic itself, and it's own inbuilt Sweet 16 Dissassembler and other in it's Rom's firmware for the entering short machine language programs in ram and the running of DOS routines and other special purpose areas...Most did the same on all the other machine types then, and where all those montly magazines, etc were very helpful also...All in that before later of MSDOS (C) and machines of greater memory structures became the standard... 

All of the older though still quite useful for home user programmers not to mention great fun in the doings as well...

Been slowly gathering up all the materials mainly softwares in tools, etc to learn and do that of assembly on today's X64 machines...That needed both separately and to do better inlineAsm within PureBasic and/or can be  additive to C++ app's as well...

Had given away two of my best books on it, but year back at a great bargain latched onto an entire course in Mac store for around $11 or so which was really well done, and then there's a great deal many more tutorials on Youtube now than had been in the past...In pasts did only on 8 and 16 bit and on the 32K bit machines, but most was by hand and not in the normal way, *so finally mentally ready for and getting into it now*...

Initially that of a strong basic programming background made that of assembly and machine language commands very easy to pick up and use, and had used basic itself to assemble and dissassemble assembly programs and place them literally any place in the machines memory...Didn't understand the large assembler programs with all what looked strange of the reserved for Pre Proccessing commands at the tops of their editors for entering code...

Once much later also *learned the basics of C and C++*, which always use header areas at the top for any major program, it then finally became clear to me as to why and the how of it being used in professional Assembler softwares themselves, and of such while finally mentally ready for it now...As prior and years back literally did all the very old, old fashioned way, LOL...

Finally got someplace there, some is not so different *still have to write your source code* nothing new in that just more commands and registers to work with, but some in app purposes a bit more complex...

Hardest was getting a freeware assembler to work, as too many descriptions and some being incomplete made understanding the install and use difficult...

Finally got one from Sourceforge.net to work without the dosbox, it's needed for those which only run in dos...

Strike: Forgot was a console screen so a dos type and must have had dosbox running just didn't notice it, so played a bit more and as long as you bring up dosbox after the assembler and then run your code in the assembler *it works perfectly fine*...

Only difference is you don't have to bother with any mount commands at all, as long as the dosbox is up and running the assembler does it's job...Overall it was a quite clean and smooth operation....

Anyway did manage to successfully assemble, link and compile a small asm source aka text file into an executable, displaying it's results as it should...

Haven't examined every detail of it, but can make both 32 and 64 bit executables as far as that goes, and likely under dosbox can do the older 8/16 bit types but not sure yet just learning there but were older versions that did do those prior?...

Then see some use Masm another assembler also under dosbox specifically for the 8/16 bit types also, will add it also, as appears to give one a Debug display of your program's code and or it's results *in the hexadecimal  format of assembly language* and more along the lines of what long used to there...

Now though a matter of making a number of various purposeful subroutines as an on hand library, same as did in the old days there...

Microsoft (TM): Most on Win 10 if not other also, likely got a *Huge, huge* Update recently, and it was quite major and included an upgrade of cloud real time based AV additional scan service...

That of a highly improved type that scans for virus's, plus mal and spy wares to boot...Great...

Not sure what all else but took something like an hour and 10 - 20 minutes worth to fully install, during which deferred to the mac for news and other...

Anyway today followed their advice to do that av scan since had downloaded the freeware stuff, and it and all of many other things have installed after a long scan came up just fine, no bugs or errors on, in my pc!...

Just to be sure wasn't hallucinating from looking at a screen to long, today ran the freeware assembler again, first bringing it up, and then the DOSBox also *but without entering any mount commands*, and again it assembled, build and ran programs perfectly that way...

While it's freeware does ask for a donation which can be done through paypal (R) once your sure of it's quality as that version was highly upgraded by the person who released it, in added features, etc to run very smoothly under DOSBox on today's systems...

Went through installs, uninstalls several times before realized that some old from 2002 asm example programs out of one of my old books wouldn't run unless I added the additional header/pre processor coding to them, lol...



Today following along with a video for it are several, also downloaded from SourceForge.net that of Microsoft's older MASM611 (c) Assembler program with no problems whatsoever there either...It's an unsupported type but fully useable under DOSBox on today's pc's, etc...

Once downloaded has to be *installed and setup* under DOSBox itself, else it won't intall as is on today's systems...It takes awhile as are many individual files it has to copy in that process...

Once installed to your C drive, it also does have to be mounted under DOSBox to run and use it!...

That for the older 8 mainly 16 bit dos programmings, and of which really like it for it's debug aka disassembled views of your compiled program...That where you see it in the hexadecimal numberings format of the assembly language itself, and the values (codes) residing in your CPU's registers as well as the memory locations your program is using, etc...

On any pc os type appears NASM the netwide assembler a good choice plenty of tutorials for it on windows and linux pc's, plus it will assemble 16 bit types under 64 bit systems also, and just loads of doc and tutorial examples for those...

Then is an accepted assembler on the Mac too, but with *one very big problem* there's almost nada, zip for any good document examples and tutorials an extreme rarity also for using it on OSX (c) systems???!...

One of the problems is their assembly language not the same as that of the Intel inside cpu they use, theirs of the ATT syntax and not Intel like the rest of the world...Good from their point of view of keeping a tight system but inside an extra conversion someplace Xcode (c) to use that Intel (c) cpu itself...

So as far as the direct of assembly on it, not wanting to learn a separate assembly language especially when there's nearly zilch in documents or tutorials for it...

Will stick to the Intel 8086 and Upwards series of which can use *directly in PureBasic*, and since PureBasic in Mac version produces in conjuction with Xcode that of fully compatible .exe files for the Mac, will be ok in that and definately much easier...

Well on my way now for that of assembly on today's pc's, latter can be used on Android (c) as well from what some of the Youtube video's indicate, and passing this all on for any interested in learning how to set up and program in assembly language on your home pc as well...

[On all the other to do with dosbox had never said one could run the current modern derived QBasics under it, had said up to but left out the not including part was all, that of the QB32 (c) and QB64 (c) derived QBasics will both run on today's pc's as made for them, without the need of the Dosbox!...

However for the original QB's were developed by Microsoft (TM) and many apparently yet prefer those in and of it's debug, and other in original features...

While sure many also use the modern derived QB's and not knocking it or them at all, *but in my opinion it's graphics are very limited*, and such that even an old Apple II + or Commadore, etc could put out better graphics back then, than these current QB64 softwares have?...

Do yourself a favor and on Youtube search type in QB64 Games are a number shown there, and then after that type in FreeBasic Games, and you'll see the huge in difference between them!...

FreeBasic (c) but freeware, was/is made highly compatible too run many of the older QBasic programs directly within it as well, and in math and other areas is even more impressive of it's power all by itself in my opinion....

Further you can electively aka optionally embed if you want too your choice of the Java native, Lua or Spider Monkey languages codeings within the FreeBasic programs you write as well, aside it's already inherant direct use potential of the C language additionally with that of it's main *Basic language itself*...

May not have worded that last part correctly as all you have to do is learn and use is *it's Basic* language itself to make yourself great app's and even quite nice games as well, you just have greater options in the doings available to you with that of today's FreeBasic itself over any other basic which is free!...

Yes you make executionables in it just as you did in the QBasic's also...

If you download it, make sure to also as is a separate download to get and install the FBIDE also. that's one of it's Editor's and GUI interface that you'll need to open and run it!...

Both can be obtained from SourceForge,net or think just the FreeBasic part at it's site as well where you can get support from also...Comes with full help, etc documention and even an easy short primer course, but tons on Youtube also...

Are versions of it for the Windows, Mac and Linux PC os's... 

The FBIDE needed for Windows pc's, and on Mac and Linux types you may have to use their terminals as the command line interface type...

For initial learn programmings that of the tut's on Youtube should start you properly in addition to the excellent programmers guide that's within it's help section...

Have to back up on the Mac side read some bad info there, and fairly did see a few very decent QB games but were a lot more under FreeBasic when checked, and you'll find aside it's extra programming power most of it's commands are the same as QB itself and more highly compatible to it to boot...Check it's manual and spec's...Then it as of QB is good for much more than games, and of FreeBasic you have more potential to also sell app's made from it, you have to check into the specifics yourselves there, is in the help manual or on the site itself...

[Should you want even greater graphics power in a Basic language aka 3D versus just the 2D get the gfree DarkBasic Pro for windows only, originally of *the game creators (c)* and now Open source at SourceForge.net, many free tutorials still available for it some if you check links at that download area are from the game creators pages left for that and then a ton on youtube as well...Between those and until you purchase the *Hands on DarkBasic Pro books* will keep you busy...

That of the FreeBasic is more along the lines of Older yet Upgraded to the most Modern of *Basic*  in specific that of it and QB Quick Basic from the late 80's era and more!...

Basics themselves were used daily by many in late 70's and early 80's on User home computers types then, and with Awesome power then, and now in the same and more in that of the updated FreeBasic of today's world, of which you can make near any kind of app also...

So it's up to you and your needs, maybe FreeBasic for the all purpose category an initial must have, and then optionally also the DarkBasic Pro for the 3D graphics category or just get both?...

You may be able to do *some initial 3D* in FreeBasic also as has an OpenGl option, but DarkBasic Pro should boost you quite a bit in that area...

In dropback to the childproof type there's that of the excellent free PC-Basic which runs on Mac's and maybe Linux also]...

Those are all excellent to create your own *Home User Pc programs and the App's you need on your pc*

Beyond that if can afford then theirs the extremely powerful of the commercial *PureBasic* for the basic language and powerful 3D games and near any type of program App you can imagine!...

 
One difficulty in the FreeBasic is that of the additional console aka dos window that accompanies the graphics one when you choose a graphics video mode...It also appears in the exe file also, so *you will need to inquire on how to suppress that in the latter case*...

That should have been in their documentation, but didn't see it?...

There's OpenGL mode, and *are some free graphics aka 3D engines that work from FreeBasic* as well, that some of their games appear to be made from, and were no dual screens in the final products, so you'll need to inquire on that too...


Working more with the PureBasic that had for years and just recently started working with myself as doesn't have that problem, and has a dedicated 3D engine in it already...

Wwg tosses:

On tosses should any do, for that of *personal questions* only use the 3 coin type such as in SuperIching utilizing it's rules which are purely and very specifically for that one purpose...

Here we deal with timed systems and actual events rather than what are purely personal questions, and in that the 6 coin type fits best using the same *exact common core* of 384 plus hexagrams as the timed for that of world global situations, rather than personal ones...

Correspondingly some of the rules or the ways a hexagram is both examined and interpreted is quite different from that done in the SuperIching or 3 coin type Wwg tosses!...


In tosses of either type though, the same basic pre conditions must be observed:

Normally do so only in a quiet environment aka quiet and personally peaceful zone to avoid that of interuptions, interferences or obstructings to adding in and contaminating the toss results...

Good to select a time of day in zone that condition can be met, and then at least 20 minutes prior quieten your own internal environment itself...

Then don't toss if within the last ten minutes prior you aka your mind has been decidedly focused on any one singular subject itself, that too can add into the results, and it's highly desired that your in a normal peaceful state where your mind and thoughts have been in the normal relaxed way floating from one subject or thought to another with no strong focus on any in particular...

Sounds hard but not as is the norm of just how one's or most's thinkings and thoughts flow aka go when their relaxed, relaxing...

At any point after about ten minutes of relaxation you can then meditate or simply pre focus ahead of the physical toss for  a minute or more on some visual aspect (mentally formed image) related to the question you will be asking...

Not an absolute requirement to do that but is of aide, else: 

When you finally do toss shake the coins focusing on that of which the question will be asked (Target of the Question), if on your country for example then mentally visualize an image of it while shaking the coins, you might do that for 10 to 60 seconds focusing on the image only, before asking the full question and releasing the coins...

Except for general or open ended questions in that of specific full questions as applicable and preferred:

Include a definite and specific time element (frame) to which the question and answer will refer or apply to and that is needed or useful in the results you need to know of or about...

Aligning and syncing a question to a specific date, etc will definitely yield more specific and accurate results...

Also if not a general or open ended question be sure to have selected the appropriate vulnerable aka appointed star to represent that area of your interest aka that the question or matter is relative too, and that the information is needed on...

Narrows down the interpretation to that star type and line(s) it is on alone, and in terms of it's status (strength state per timing) which will then quickly decide the outcome or matter (plus or minus, yes or no) for you!...



Toss exceptions to the normal of meditative or just relaxed, peaceful times and settings...

If something has come up that jolts, shocks or is of strong concerns *such that it alarms you* emotively, you can *immediately* once you've gathered your thoughts *toss* with any questions you have and need answered regarding that...

In that and those particular cases:

Note the Gry line as indicating the sudden jolts involved then, besides the changes line for that which results or comes up as an outcome...

*Then always note the Red line itself to be conveying main to the matter or related within the matter as being of a state of Alarm itself*!... 


Other than that best results will always result from having selected a personal quiet zone, and meeting the peaceful pre toss requirements...


R star physicals:

In tosses not of a teams type physicals that are of R star type can represent many things and aside troubles or dangers may indicate that of worry, fears, anxieties and power or control issues one might have relative the matters within the question your asking of or even in worries considering what the potential outcome will be and how it may affect your own status in some way....

Ideally you should toss letting go of any concerns you may have as to what the result may be, but not always easy to do, and emotive concerns you may have relative the question may cause you to get a Physical of an R star type in result...

On those *you should always examine your own feelings about the question matters asked* and or if your worried or fearful that the result may affect your personal status or relationship to another in some unwanted way, *then assign the R star  meaning from that*...


That's my personal way of doing them which works well for me, your free to use others guidences as you see fit or desire...
